President Washington's State China

Speaking of Washington, most folks are aware of his "states" china, shown here on the right, but most folks are not aware of his state china which he purchased from Count de Mustier, the French foreign mininster, in 1790. While the original pieces of this gold service were made at the factory in Sevres, many of the pieces added later were made a several other French factories. Washington continued to add to this service and used it for state dinners when the capitol of our country was New York for a brief time.
